Since 1969, Al Merrick has been dedicated to performance and quality through hard work, innovation, and originality. Over the past 37 years his surfboard designs have grown from an intrinsic understanding to a back catalogue of hundreds of boards used by thousands of surfers from around the world.

He started with hardcore surfing and quality in mind and this continues through out the line of Anacapa Surfboards. Al's knowledge, built up over three decades, focuses on the recreational surfer who is time poor, but full of desire to enjoy their surfing more than ever. Anacapa boards will, through their design and quality help people fulfill this desire.

He has been the driving force behind Channel Islands Surfboards and the demand on his CI designs created by the world's greatest surfers, allow for the highest performance surfing possible.

Al's daily aim has always been to provide the most dedicated surfers with the most advanced performance designs is his passion. Al's designs have helped win 19 world titles so far.

The Anacapa range covers boards needed for a wide range of conditions and an even wider range of recreational surfers. Key elements of the range are all based around performance, the Anacapa brand delivers this at a fantastic price point. Al was very conscience of the ever increasing cost of the modern day surfboard in putting the range together, his aim was to make the Anacapa high performance but lower on price.
